Life Drawing Studio
Two Mondays monthly, supervised, 2:00pm–5:00pm

A classic uninstructed life drawing group managed by studio directors. Bring drawing materials and easel (if you use one), pay the fee, and improve your skills.

Bring your current project and join the community of other artists! Nourish your creativity in the Sequoia classroom from 1-4pm on listed Sunday afternoons. Each artist will work on their individual project. A critique time will be available. Sequoia members can work with no charge. Community members are encouraged to join in with a fee of $5. Early registration is encouraged.


Drawing Skills Every Artist Needs

Three Saturdays: January 14, February 11, March 10 (2012), 10:00am–3:30pm
Class #: 4   Tuition: $195 for all 3, or $75 each
Increase your rendering skills to enhance the final paintings you do. Steve Kleier will include demonstrations, class drawing time, and critique. He will include rendering perspective, light and shadows. Focus will be on both details and composition. Take one or up to all three days of the workshop:

Workshop: Composition, Painting, & Marketing Oil and Acrylic

Three-day workshop, Friday–Sunday, April 13–15, 2012, 9:00am–4:00pm
Class #: 10   Tuition: $350
Through a combination of live demonstration, AV presentation, and one on one coaching, Mark Heine will demonstrate his unique approach to painting and working with digital photography. Mark will discuss and demonstrate the concept, content and composition of his painting, canvas texturing, use of Adobe® Photoshop® (including one on one preparation of each student's image), his philosophy and approach to paint application using water soluble oils on canvas. Other topics for discussions will include materials, surfaces, finishes, promotion, promotional materials, galleries and the internet. With one on one coaching, students will complete their own painting. The 3-day time frame, allows for a useful mid-painting as well as final critique at the end of days 2 and 3.

Workshop: Exploring Fluid Acrylics

Two-day workshop, Saturday–Sunday, April 21–22, 2012, 9:30am–3:00pm
Class #: 11   Tuition: $150, plus $15 paid directly to instructor for supplies
Enjoy exploring a wide range of painting techniques with Golden Fluid Acrylics and mixed media. This workshop will combine traditional fine art guidelines with contemporary techniques, to combine realistic and abstract. Learn to develop new surface textures, paint applications and to focus on the fun and process of creating. Linda will provide Golden Fluid Acrylic paints, medium, and gesso, which are included in the tuition fee.

Workshop: Human Form & Portraiture in Stained Glass

Two-day workshop, Saturday–Sunday, May 5–6, 2012, 9:00am–5:00pm

Full amount due by April 16, 2012.
A hands-on workshop for intermediate and advanced levels, using modern mosaic techniques to understand structure, cross-contour, highlights, color, gradation, value and types of shadows. We will learn how to “see” things differently. The students will learn how to mix glass values and colors to define planes, and how to use color most effectively with artist tricks that will be taught. There will be a one hour demonstration; then students will begin a life-like, 12" x 12" mosaic from a photograph.

Use digital images and Photoshop® Elements to improve your painting skills – to SEE, not just imagine, changes to a painting before committing more paint to canvas. Designed for those with little or no photo editing experience, you will learn new skills to move your creativity forward. Take home edited, realistic or abstract, digital images, created from original images.
